The House Democrats sent a letter to Sen. Coons and Carper urging them to oppose Betsy DeVos as the next U.S. Secretary of Education.
Specifically, we are concerned about Ms. DeVos’ lack of knowledge of basic education policy, her advocacy for private school vouchers, her views on guns in schools and her positions on civil rights.
Teachers, students and parents deserve a Secretary of Education who will push for the improvements to strengthen our public education system, not weaken it.
Below is the letter that was sent to the Senators.

Kim: Both Coons and Carper have committed publicly to voting no on DeVos. DSEA members called and emailed for past two weeks–in record numbers. I sent official letters on Jan. 12th and then spoke with both Senators. They responded to educator input and to DeVis hearing debacle. Asking members to thank them after next week’s confirmation vote.

I sent a letter through DSEA to Sen. Coons and Carper, so did my husband and daughter, asking them to oppose DeVos. DSEA letter writing was open not just to teachers but members of the public. Sen. Coons and Carper knew in advance our letter was coming. I know in the last day or so they both announced they were not supporting DeVos. Glad they listened to all of our concerns.
