Something that was brought up at the Progressive Dems for Delaware meeting last week (and frequently over the last few years) was making SecEd an electable position rather than a gubernatorial appointment. Same thing with the State Board, well, probably more so with the State Board. Boards of Ed around the state are all elected…except for the State Board. I think if Education is to change in DE, then it has to begin with Statewide Education Leadership.
A possible acceptable alternative to election, given the extreme difficulty in 1) turning out voters for school related elections & 2) having voters well informed on school issues, would possibly by Gubernatorial appointment WITH Senate confirmation. Check & Balance.

No. No you do not. Didn’t know that was a part of the process currently. Elected positions it is then! SecEd and State Board!

I say we impeach the Governor. All we need to do is rally the legislators to actually do it. For all those thinking, it’s only 15 more months, he can do a lot of damage in 15 months…

All in on Elected state board with hire/fire power over State Superintendent. No longer cabinet position. No ties to Governor.
